Ginger Chrome Web Extension

Great news everyone!
Ginger is proud to publicly release a Chrome web extension today. In line with our efforts to improve Ginger’s product and services, the new Chrome extension allows Ginger to be used on emails and social media such as Facebook. Users of the Chrome web-browser are able to install the extension on any platform supported by Chrome (Mac, Win, Linux).

Download the extension from the Chrome Web Store

In addition, Safari and Firefox standalone extensions are currently in the works and will be released soon. For our loyal Mac users, these extensions move us one step towards integrating Ginger Software with the Mac.

We hope you’ll enjoy this new feature and help us spread the word to your family and friends!

With great pleasure,
The Ginger Team

I have added the extention to Google Chrome and have the green tick up in the top right hand corner but i don’t know how to actually use it. i.e. when typing this comment can i use it, when writting an e-mail in g-mail can i use it? If so, how? I have installed the full version also and when i press F2 it says application not supported.

    • paulc on April 30th, 2012

Hi Collin, the Chrome extension of Ginger should run on Gmail.
We’ve uploaded a video link for more info on how to utilize the extension best:

Do check if Ginger Software is opened and running when you press F2. If you still encounter the same problem, then it is most likely a technical issue. Kindly drop us a message on our technical support page and we’ll resolve your issue asap.

Unfortunately, I get a message saying it isn’t available on Gmail. The message says Ginger does not work on this website and I should open a new tab in order to run it.

        • Adam Ehrlich on December 30th, 2014

          Hi Tal,

That’s the constraint of working with Gmail. If you follow the instructions you’ll be able to work with Ginger in Gmail. Please write to if you have any other questions.

Hello. I just want to ask i you have a ginger software for Mac?

    • paulc on May 2nd, 2012

Hi Bianca, we don’t have the whole software being compatible with Mac yet, but we do have a Chrome extension that runs on the platforms of Linux/Mac/Windows. We’ll let everyone know when a Mac version is released. =)

  3. Margaret on May 1st, 2012

I have the same problem as Colin. The You Tube video does not bring me any further than I got already. I cannot use it on gmail in Chrome.

    • paulc on May 2nd, 2012

Hi Margaret, could you try removing and re-installing the extension again? If you’re still facing the same issue, kindly inform our technical support so that they can troubleshoot the problem for you more effectively and efficiently.

The Chrome extension is a wonderful addition. What sets GINGER apart is the ability to offer words with definitions… This allows one to work out the right word on the spot.

As far as I can tell, this feature is missing from the extension.

Do you plan to make this a part of the extension soon or have you decided to not include it?

    • paulc on May 2nd, 2012

Hi Bill, we have no concrete plans of adding this feature on the extension as of now. But we’re always receiving feedback, and it could be possible to have this feature added to the extension if it serves to benefit our users. Thanks for the feedback!

      Hi George,
You can always use the seamless mode- the green underlines that appear once there is a mistake in the text.
Right click the green underline to receive corrections, and click again to approve them.

This pop-up for ginger shows up on every page I go to. Is there any way to get rid of this thing? I am sick of clicking it out of the way all the time. I am about ready to get rid of google altogether. Sickening! Jerks!

    • Efratk on January 2nd, 2013

      Hi Rich,
We’ve forward this issue to our product team so they can address it.
In the meantime, we do hope you continue to enjoy Ginger’s corrections.

I already payed for ginger premium. But, Ginger could not run, I never find ginger on my mac. I regret…really regret. As like lie me, this software.
And instruction just around…and around not clear.

    • Efratk on June 12th, 2013

Hi we’re sorry to hear that, however we only offer Ginger as a Safari and Chrome extension for Mac users and this is free. Where did you download this from? Our website?

  10. Wallace Panlilio on July 22nd, 2013

Is the Chrome free to both Mac and Windows users? How about Safari? Is it already working?

  11. Wallace Panlilio on July 22nd, 2013

Is Ginger free in both Safari and Chrome? Does it work in both Windows and Macs? I noticed that after downloading the extension, my Chrome “freezes” where the cursor is no longer blinking and I can’t write on my gmail.

    • Efratk on July 28th, 2013

      Hi Wallace!
Ginger is free for both Safari and Chrome. Ginger supports all browsers on Mac, however on PC we also support MS-Office.
As for the Curser issue, we’d appreciate if you could send us your contact details so our team will be able to help.
      Thank you!

It asks me to save something when I go to install the add-on and then when i save it somewhere it gives me this error: “Download was not a valid extension or user script”. I have tried saving the .CRX file that it asks me to save in several different places including the extensions folder of the Chrome files and it still gives me that same error. Any idea what could be causing this? I really want to get Ginger installed on Chrome because the current spell check is so horrid.

    • Adam Ehrlich on October 27th, 2013

      Hi Justin,

I’ve passed your comment on to our support team. They’ll get back to you with an answer.

I have purchased the premium edition and can not get it to work with chrome without cutting and pasting into the little box thus losing out on all the gmail extras I get, i.e. bullets, underlining, etc. Why?

  18. Chau Huynh on May 27th, 2015

Hey guys. I can’t use Ginger’s Chrome Web Extension anymore. I tried to search it on Google Market, but nothing there. Then I come here, and click on the link you gave but the link is not available. Chrome notifies me that the owner has removed it from Chrome Market. That’s so sad!
Sorry for my bad english. I’m still a English learner.
