Monday Mistakes – Famous Spelling Fails of 2012!
2012 is almost over! We’ve taken the time to check some very funny spelling fails this year.
1. A Better AMERCIA
Our runner-up in this list features the runner-up in the American presidential elections Mitt Romney. During his campaign, Romney had his team create an iPhone app where people could upload a picture of themselves, and then have a pro-Romney campaign slogan superimposed over their photo. Pretty simple right? Unfortunately not. The developer spelled AMERICA wrong. Yes AMERICA. Rather than “A BETTER AMERICA, I’m with Mitt”, the slogan was spelled “A BETTER AMERCIA.” Yikes! Major fail. Of course his opponents had a field day with this screw up and made their own mocking versions of this “AMERCIA” typo. Sometimes all AMERCIA needs is a spell checker!
2. Olympic Torch Barer
This typo is of Olympic proportions! When Jerri Peterson was chosen to carry the Olympic torch through Derby back in June, she decided to celebrate the occasion with a tattoo. She had always wanted a tattoo and this was the perfect occasion to get one. Unfortunately, this the word Olympic was spelled “Oylmpic” rather than “Olympic.” Ouch! Luckily it was raining the day that she had to run with the torch so her pants covered up this embarrassing type. In the end, she ended up laughing it off and despite her apologetic tattoo artist’s pleas to let him fix it, she decided to keep this unique reminder of her Olympic experience.
3. How to spell OHIO?
Joining Mitt Romney on the presidential campaign fail circuit is Barak Obama. While meeting some fans in the state of Ohio, Obama joined them in a Village People-esque spelling of OHIO using their arms. On the first try, Obama is the H, but in the 3rd spot rather than the 2nd which spelled O-I-H-O. Perhaps he was just spelling it backwards? Hopefully this was not the reason for his slim 3% win in this battleground state.
We wish you all a happy new year, free of spelling mistakes & grammar errors!
